Rebecca Ruige Xu: Crafting Emotional Landscapes through Generative Abstract Animation

Rebecca Ruige Xu teaches computer art and animation as a professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. Her research interests include experimental animation, visual music, artistic data visualization, interactive installations, digital performance, and virtual reality.

In this talk, Xu uncovers her exploration of creating abstract animations weaving the language of code with inspiration drawn from music and poetry. Her work focuses on constructing immersive and meaningful spaces that evoke a strong and shared emotional response, ranging from animation on screen and VR environments to tangible prints and sculptures. Rooted in visual music and artistic data visualization, Xu's work aspires to foster connection and understanding within a distinctive and engaging environment.
