Dr. Johannes M. Bauer Joins FCC As Chief Economist
Jessica Rosenworcel, Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission of the United States (FCC) has appointed CEE-TP Instructor Dr. Johannes M. Bauer as FCC Chief Economist.
Dr. Bauer is the Quello Chair for Media and Information Policy at Michigan State University and instructor for the CEE-TP Moving Towards Digital Inclusion class. Dr. Bauer’s research is focused on the design of policies, regulation, and other governance that are needed to fully benefit from advanced information and communication technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI for society while mitigating their potential risks.
Chairwoman Rosenworcel commented, “In his role as Chief Economist, Dr. Bauer will bring understanding of the latest research related to industry, foster the professional development of the FCC’s economists, and ensure economic and data analysis of the highest quality for the benefit of the consumer.” He will work in the FCC’s Office of Economics and Analytics for a one-year term.
In a comment to MSU Today, Bauer said “...my role as chief economist at the FCC is a new, exciting opportunity to share knowledge, contribute to the development of policy and bipartisan, workable solutions to today’s communication challenges…”
