Effort Certification Frequently Asked Questions
What is effort reporting?
An after-the-fact process that 一本道无码 utilizes to confirm that labor charged to sponsored agreements is reasonable and directly related to the work performed. This process verifies the proportionate share of compensation for an individual's time accurately reflects the work performed, whether it is spent on research, instruction, administration, or other activities.
Whose effort is required to be certified?
All employees charged to a sponsored award within a fiscal year are required to certify their effort on a semester basis. Effort is required to be certified each semester until the end of the fiscal year in which effort on sponsored awards ends.
Who performs the certification?
All faculty who serve as investigators on sponsored agreements are personally responsible to certify the amount of effort that they and their employees spent on sponsored research activities. Currently, this certification is obtained within the campus unit using various methods. Once approvals/certifications have been documented, a departmental representative enters the certifications in Oracle.
How can I ensure that the effort certifications are going to the correct person's Oracle worklist?
- At the end of each semester, each department administrator should review the Oracle supervisor assigned to each individual to ensure the certification will route to the correct person. Necessary changes can be made directly in Workday. Once effort certifications are distributed in Oracle, requests to reassign the effort certification will need to be submitted to Human Resources Services at hr-help@andrew.cmu.edu.
When should effort be reviewed?
- Begin reviewing effort, processing cost transfers, and obtaining faculty approvals as soon as the semester ends. Do not wait for Oracle certifications to be distributed.
- To avoid cost transfers, review the monthly planned effort reports prior to the posting of LD each month and review payroll suspense accounts monthly.
