Early Completion Verification
Carnegie Mellon has only three graduation dates (May, August and December), at which time degrees are certified and diplomas are produced for graduates. A student's program completion date may be earlier than their graduation date, depending upon when the student completed the requirements for their academic program.
Requesting an Early Completion Verification
Students requesting an early completion verification letter may submit a signed Verification Request (pdf) form and email it to uro-verifications@andrew.cmu.edu. Please include Early Program Completion in the subject line.

Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students may complete their program early if they are only enrolled in mini-1 or mini-3 or summer-1/mini-5 coursework. These students will be considered completed on the date that grades are due for those minis/sessions. Departments can indicate this by emailing the University Registrar's Office; however, validation will be obtained from the student information system's course registration. Departments must certify their students for graduation prior to the production of the verification.
Masters Students
Course-Based or project-based Masters Program
Students may complete their program early if they are only enrolled in mini-1 or mini-3 or summer-1/mini-5 coursework. Research-Based Masters Program
Students may complete their program early when they defend their master's thesis. These students will be considered completed on their date of degree certification. Departments can indicate this by emailing the University Registrar's Office; however, validation will be obtained from the student information system. Departments must certify their students for graduation prior to the production of the verification.
Doctoral Students
Doctoral students who have reached All But Dissertation status may complete their program early once they have defended their thesis and have been certified for graduation in the student information system. These students will be considered completed once they have turned in their final thesis to the department, received the Dean’s signature and have been certified in the student information system. Departments should report this information to the University Registrar’s Office using the Doctoral Student Final Semester (pdf) form, which should indicate the date of certification, course number and number of units. Students must be certified in the student information system before they are able to request an early completion verification letter.
