Dear Faculty:
I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Dan Martin for a second five-year term as dean of the College of Fine Arts (CFA). Dan was first appointed as dean in 2012 after serving as interim dean from 2010 to 2012. He also maintains his duties as a professor of arts and entertainment management in the School of Drama.
Over the past five years, Dan has demonstrated his strengths as an engaged and approachable leader, effective administrator, and well-respected collaborator and has established a positive momentum for CFA, across all of its five schools. Among his many accomplishments, he has significantly improved several critical functions with the college, including the recruitment, promotion and tenure processes for faculty. He has also worked to increase the visibility of the college through the founding of the Excellence in Theatre Education Award, a partnership with the Tony Awards. Dan has also been actively engaged in expanding fine and applied arts programming through the establishment of the CFA Fund for Research and Creativity.
I want to share my gratitude to the following members of the evaluation committee: Wendy Arons, professor, Dramatic Literature (co-chair); Clayton Merrell, professor, Art (co-chair); Doug Cooper, professor, Architecture; Rich Randall, associate professor, Music Theory; Cynthia Limauro, professor, Drama; Stacie Rohrbach, associate professor, Design; and Jim Garrett, dean, College of Engineering. I also want to thank Kathryn Roeder, Vice Provost for Faculty, who served as an ex-officio member of the committee as well as all of the faculty who assisted the committee in its work.
The committee provided thoughtful analysis and advice that will be helpful to Dan as he begins his next term as dean. With the support of the faculty and staff, I am confident that he will continue to lead in ways that enhance the school’s excellence. I look forward to planning a visit to the College of Fine Arts in the fall and continuing these valuable conversations about the bright future of CFA.
Please join me in congratulating Dan on this reappointment.
Sincerely,
Farnam Jahanian
Provost and Chief Academic Officer
