Hannah Bailey is an Assistant Professor at the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy & Technology (CMIST). Her research examines how authoritarian states develop and use emerging technologies, focusing on the goals and impacts of state-sponsored digital persuasion in the global public sphere. In her research, Dr. Bailey develops applies natural language processing, machine learning, and computer vision techniques to analyze large-scale text and image datasets.
Her work has been featured in major outlets such as The New York Times, Washington Post, BBC, The Guardian, and The Times. Dr. Bailey earned her DPhil in Social Data Science from the University of Oxford, where she contributed to the Oxford Institute’s Computational Propaganda Programme and the Programme on Democracy and Technology.
