About the Dietrich Success Center

The Dietrich Success Center (DSC) is charged with providing academic advising for exploratory first and second-year students in the Dietrich College, as well as with providing special programs that build community and enhance the quality of advising for both students and advisors across the college.

The professionally trained, seasoned DSC advisors are committed to providing guidance and support that positions students to thrive academically and personally at Carnegie Mellon. The relationship as primary advisors begins during the summer before students arrive for orientation and continues until they declare a major. At that time students transition to an advisor in their major department, and the DSC advisor assumes a secondary role, continuing to advise them regarding the General Education program and on a variety of other general academic issues.

While campus housing works hard to make students' residence hall experience a "home away from home," the DSC will also be working hard to become students' academic home. It is the DSC's intention to provide an accessible place to begin their exploration of academic possibilities. Students will be asking many questions while exploring, such as: Is study abroad right for me? Why can't I decide on a major? Who can I talk to in order to learn more about research?

The DSC wants to help students find the answers to those questions. The DSC advisors will help students navigate the excellent resources on campus, bring to light questions that have yet to be asked and be the first point of contact on academic matters.

Vision

The Dietrich Success Center aspires to be a nationally recognized role model of advising excellence.
