Degree Verifications

A degree verification officially provides proof of degrees awarded, and/or graduation date, and/or expected degrees, and/or expected graduation date.

Course or grade information is not included in verifications. If course or grade information is needed, students should order an official transcript. Semester course schedules and grades are also available within  for currently enrolled students.

Currently enrolled students may request a degree verification by visiting and selecting "Request Verification" under the "Academic Info" tab. From there, you will be able to download a PDF degree verification.

Former students, parents and family members of current students, and third-party investigators/employers can find helpful information on the Request Verification page.

H-1B is a nonimmigrant visa category that allows a foreign worker to come to the U.S. and work in a "specialty occupation," which includes most professional positions on a temporary basis. An H-1B visa requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specialized field as part of the position's minimum qualifications:  H-1B visa letters provides the degree, graduation date and enrollment history. Note:  We cannot produce a H-1B letter for expected graduates. Students must be certified for a degree to produce the letter.  Please see Early Completion Verification guidelines if you are planning on graduating before the end of the semester.

To request a degree verification letter:

  1. Current students or alumni with SIO access can go to . You can download a PDF verification of your degree by selecting Request Verification under the Academic Info tab and checking enrollment history and awarded degree.
  2. Former students without SIO access may submit a signed Verification Request (pdf) form and email it to uro-verifications@andrew.cmu.edu with the the subject line "H1B Visa Letter."  H-1B visa letters take 5-10 business days to process.
