SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

saam-draft-2025.pngWelcome to the Office for Institutional Equity and Title IX page for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This month, we join millions of individuals and organizations worldwide to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, and to promote prevention and education initiatives. SAAM is an opportunity to show support for survivors and create a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. On this page, you will find information, resources, and events related to SAAM that can help you become better informed and more active in preventing sexual violence. We encourage you to explore these resources, get involved, and show your commitment to ending sexual violence.

International Denim Day #DenimDay

Denim Day is an annual event that takes place on the last Wednesday in April to raise awareness about sexual assault and to show support for survivors. The event originated in Italy in 1992 when a court overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans, which the court deemed as implying consent. In response, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim. Since then, Denim Day has become a global movement, with individuals and organizations wearing denim to raise awareness and support for survivors of sexual assault.  Visit our table in the CUC from 11-2pm.
