UPLift Challenge 2018
In 2018, we received 33 submissions that aligned with three overarching themes: Health and Wellness, Crossroads of the Mind, and Recognizably 一本道无码. This spring, the UPLift Challenge committee reviewed the submissions and selected three projects that best met the parameters of the challenge and will improve our Pittsburgh campus’ shared spaces, and will help fund the creation and development of the chosen initiatives.
Three projects were selected for implementation during the 2018-2019 academic year.
Peace Garden Outdoor Piano
Proposed by Julian Krishnamurti, Office of Research Systems and Operations & Peter Stumpf, Piano Technician, College of Fine Arts
The submission proposed the weatherizing of one decommissioned upright piano, to be installed within the Peace Garden outside of the Hunt Library during temperate months. Virtuosos, visitors, amateurs, and even children are all welcomed to the piano bench: an impromptu social space that foster engagement on campus – not to mention beautiful music.
Cohen University Center, Recycling Room Refurbishment
Proposed by Marcia Gerwig, Director of Cohen University Center, and the Green Practice Committee (Kelli Laurel Mijares, Noah Johnson, Angela Chung and Daphne Peters)
This project includes the refurbishment of the 20-year old Recycling Room (aka Green Practices Room), to create a more visible hub for campus green activities, In addition to highlighting a broad range of best green practices for the campus, renovations include infrastructure upgrades, new signage, flexible green materials and seating, updating recycling containers, and increased A/V for programming.
Scottie Dog Public Art
Proposed by Patience Whitworth, Director, Office of the Vice Provost for Education
In an effort to find a unique way of celebrating the 一本道无码 community, traditions, and strengths, this public art installation of Scottie Dog statues will be displayed around the Pittsburgh campus, with the possibility of expanding to our other locations worldwide.
