Microsoft Copilot
Copilot is Microsoft’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform. It uses multiple data models, including GPT-4 and DALL-E3, to generate written and visual content based on a prompt.
Unlike open commercial tools, like Chat GPT, Copilot provides additional when you access it using your Andrew userID. Microsoft will not retain your prompts or responses to train its AI models.
Note: Copilot for Microsoft 365 apps, like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is not yet available using your Andrew userID. We will update this page as the status of this service changes.

Get Started with Copilot
Log In
- Visit .
- Click Sign in.
- Enter your Andrew email address.
- Log in with your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with DUO when prompted.
- Click Yes to Stay Signed In to help ensure you remain protected whenever you access Copilot.
Copilot supports desktop and mobile versions of Microsoft Edge and other non-Microsoft browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
Ensure You’re Protected
After you log in with your Andrew userID, look for the following to ensure you’re protected:
- A badge icon (top right).
- If you hover over the badge, you should see a statement reiterating that your personal and company data are protected.
Interact with Web Pages and Files
Access Copilot in the Edge sidebar to interact with a web page or local file in your browser.
This feature allows you to interact with content that exceeds Copilot’s prompt limit. For example, you could ask Copilot to summarize a long PDF or web page or help you understand a function in a large source code file.

Access Copilot in Edge
- if you haven’t already.
- Open Edge, visit , and click Sign in.
- Click Sign in with a work or school account.
- Enter your Andrew email address.
- Log in with your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with DUO when prompted.
- Click Yes to Stay Signed In to help ensure you remain protected every time you access Copilot.
- Click the Copilot icon (top right).
You may need to grant permission to share page information after you enter a prompt, but Microsoft will not retain this information beyond the duration of the chat.
Interact with a Web Page
- Visit a web page you'd like to interact with.
- Click the Copilot icon (top right).
- Enter a prompt that includes a reference to the web page. For example, "Summarize this page."
Interact with a PDF or Other Local File
Open PDFs or other documents saved to your computer and use Copilot to interact with them.
- Open a new tab in Edge.
- Hit CTRL+O (PC) or Command+O (Mac)
- Navigate to your file and open it in a web browser.
- Click the Copilot icon (top right).
- Enter a prompt that includes a reference to the file in your web browser. For example, "Summarize this page."
