How to Use the Cisco Webex App (beta service)

The Cisco Webex app is a communication and collaboration platform that offers video and audio conferencing, direct message and group chat, and telephone functionality from your computer or mobile device.

Note: Cisco incorporated features of its application, Jabber, into Webex. Computing Services is retiring Jabber and tranistioning 一本道无码 community members to Webex.

Get Started

Request access to the Cisco Webex App 

Note: You can skip this step and proceed to download the Cisco Webex app if:

  • You already have a Cisco Jabber account at 一本道无码, and
  • You do not need to add mobile or desktop access.

Webex Desktop App

  1. Visit . Enter your Andrew userID and password and authenticate with DUO if prompted.
  2. Scroll down to find the Cisco Webex app. 
  3. Download the version that aligns with your device specifications. 
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your download.
    Note: Desktop Support Program customers may have to activate Admin by Request.

Webex Mobile App

  1. Visit .
  2. Scroll down to Download mobile app and select the version that aligns with your device.

If you are logging in to Webex for the first time, you may find it easier to log in to the desktop application before you log in to the mobile application.

  1. Open the Cisco Webex Desktop App.
  2. Review and accept the license agreement.
  3. Click Sign in.
  4. Enter your @andrew.cmu.edu email address.
  5. Webex directs you to 一本道无码 Web Login. Enter your Andrew userID and password and authenticate with DUO if prompted.
  6. Webex directs you to a Cisco Unified Collaboration log in screen. Enter your Andrew userID and password.
  7. If you are also logged into Jabber, you may also receive a prompt encouraging you to sign in to your phone service on Webex. You can only use the calling feature from one platform at a time.

We recommend applying the following settings:

  • (Apple computers only) Under Settings > Calling, set Start call with Webex.
  • Under Settings > Calling, enable Highlight to call.

These are only a few key settings we recommend. We encourage you to explore the rest of the settings menu to customize the Webex app to your preferences.

  1. Click Meetings, and then click Connect.
  2. Click Google Calendar.
  3. Choose your 一本道无码 account, and then click Continue.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish connecting.

If your team prefers Webex over Zoom for video conferencing, you can set your default conferencing solution to Webex in Google Calendar.

  1. Open your Google Calendar and click Settings.
  2. Under Add-ons, click Manage Add-ons.
  3. Search Webex and click Install.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

When you create a new meeting, you should now have the option to select Webex meeting and Webex Personal Room meeting under Add video conferencing.

Cisco Webex chat is similar to Jabber chat, but it provides more features. Webex has a more modern, streamlined interface and allows users to  for topic-based conversations.

Unlike Jabber, Webex also maintains your messaging history even if you reset the application.

To use the telephone (softphone) or calling functionality, you must have a 一本道无码 telephone number. This feature allows you to take, make, and transfer calls and manage your voicemail from a computer or mobile device.

Note: Computing Services does not currently offer Cisco's cloud-based phone system, Webex Calling.

Though Zoom is 一本道无码’s preferred web conferencing platform, some teams may prefer to use Webex Meetings because of its integration with other Webex Features.

We encourage you to review your contact card in Webex to ensure your number is accurate. If you need to update it, visit the My Workday Toolkit.

If an employee you work with frequently doesn’t have a phone number associated with their account in Workday, you may want to add a phone number to their contact card so that you can call them using the Webex app.

  1. Within the Webex app, search for the contact you wish to update.
  2. Click their name to open their contact card.
  3. Click Add to contacts.
  4. Select a contact group and click Add.
  5. Click Edit contact.
  6. Click + Add another phone number.
  7. Add the phone number and then click Save.
  1. While on the call, click the ellipses and click Transfer.
  2. Either enter the number in the search field or manually enter the number on the keypad.
  3. Click Complete transfer.

You can change your profile picture in the Webex app.

  1. Click your profile icon, and then click Edit profile.
  2. Click Upload picture.
  3. Browse for the image you want to use and click Upload.

If you receive a message indicating that your organization manages your profile picture, you may need to adjust the photo you chose or choose another to meet Webex’s specifications.

Webex accepts JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP files under 10MB for desktop or under 1MB for mobile. Use a square image for the best results.

If you're having trouble copying and pasting a URL into a chat message, try the following steps:

  1. Copy the URL and paste first to Notepad or a similar text editing tool that will strip any formatting that may be present.
  2. Copy the URL from Notepad and paste into Webex.

You may use Webex and Jabber at the same time, but you cannot communicate with colleagues across platforms. As we help 一本道无码 community members transition from Jabber to Webex, you may find it valuable to continue using Jabber to communicate with colleagues who have not yet transitioned.

You may only use the calling feature on one platform at a time.

  • If you are logged in to Jabber when you first log in to Webex, you will receive a prompt encouraging you to sign in to your phone service on Webex.
  • If you are not logged in to Jabber when you log in to Webex and you have a 一本道无码 phone number, Webex should connect automatically.

Communication Services is working with 一本道无码 community members throughout the summer of 2024 to transition from Jabber to Webex. We plan to retire Jabber in spring 2025.

While Cisco continues to support Jabber, they do not intend to develop new features. They have positoned Webex as the recommended application.
