OIE News & Announcements

OIE Offices Will Be Closed Monday, Sept. 6

The university, including OIE and other administrative offices, will be closed and there will be no classes in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. Additionally, OIE's front desk (located in the atrium on the first floor of Cyert Hall) will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3. The front desk will re-open Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. Labor Day is a public holiday celebrated in the U.S. each year on the first Monday of September.

This Weekend: 2021 Heinz Field Kickoff & Rib Fest

BBQ Ribs and Food at the Rib Fest

Heinz Field will host its FREE annual  from Thursday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 6. Ring in the football season with other Pittsburgh fans during this Labor Day weekend event. Arrive hungry, as the event features a number of national rib vendors, as well as fun games and music. The Clarks will perform on Friday, Sept. 3 to help kick off the new season, and the rest of the weekend will be filled with tons of fun events–including the Run Walk on Sunday, Sept. 5. Note: Admission to Rib Fest does not grant access into the Pitt Panthers or Pittsburgh Steelers football games, Steelers 5K or Gatorade Jr. Training Camp. Tickets and registration for these events must be purchased separately.

A Soulfoul Taste of the Burgh: Pittsburgh's Soul Food Fest

Soul Food Fest, Market Square, September 3-5

Pittsburgh's  honors the rich history of culinary, butchery and Black-owned food businesses in Pittsburgh. Taking place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 5, in downtown's Market Square, enjoy delicious items from food vendors from across Western Pennsylvania selling specialized foods along with a BBQ contest, speakers, local and national entertainment, and children's activities. Admission is free, but food must be purchased.
