Moments of Remembrance

Carnegie Mellon will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 with a lone bagpiper playing at the 9/11 Memorial Tree on The Cut Saturday, Sept. 11. The Memorial Tree was planted in memory of the seven alumni whose lives were lost that day. The piper will play at the moments of impact: 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m. and 10:03 a.m., marking the times four airliners crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and an open field in Shanksville, PA. All community members are invited to participate in these moments of remembrance.

The Fair: September 14-15

A one-stop fair for both undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty to roam and find ways to get involved at Carnegie Mellon and beyond! The Fair, which takes place across two days on Tuesday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., will showcase many of the 300+ Student Government recognized student organizations, 23 Greek organizations, and partners from around campus and the Pittsburgh community. Organizations span a variety of interests and passions. All are encouraged to attend The Fair and find their niche at Carnegie Mellon and in Pittsburgh! Learn more.

Beware of Scam-Related Phone Calls & Emails

We often hear reports of members in our community receiving scam phone calls, and in the age of COVID-19, email scams are also on the rise. View some tips to help guard yourself against these threats on OIE's website. Staying educated, following OIE’s tips and sharing them with your friends and peer groups is key. Together, let's make sure no one in our community is negatively impacted by these scams.

Lights On: A 3-day celebration of Pittsburgh's cultural district

The Allegheny Regional Asset District's RADical Days takes place from Sept. 9 through Oct. 19 and offers over 60 free events and activities across Allegheny County. View a full schedule of events. Through impactful films and engaging programs, this festival brings together the community to explore and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience. A Fair in the Park

A Fair in the Park, an annual contemporary fine art and fine craft festival, will be held in the lush surroundings of Pittsburgh's Mellon Park Sept. 10-12. An estimated 20,000 dedicated visitors enjoy the opportunity to interact with over 100 regional and national artists working in a variety of mediums including clay, fiber, wood, jewelry, glass, leather, metal, mixed media, and two-dimensional art. The show hours are Friday from 1 - 7p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. .

St. Nicholas' 2021 Annual Greek Food Festival will be held Thursday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 12. Experience delicious food, live music, Greek dance performances, and church tours. Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month

Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month logoLatinx & Hispanic Heritage Month (LHHM) is celebrated annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to acknowledge the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose ancestry can be traced to over 20 countries in Latin America, including Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. There are approximately 60 million people who have ancestries connected to these countries who reside in the United States, representing approximately 18 percent of the U.S. population. Many labels are used for this panethnic group, with the most common umbrella terms being "Hispanic" and "Latina/e/o/x." Hispanic Americans have been influential in every part of this nation's history, from arts to politics to business and innovation to the military.
