The Department of Chemistry invites admitted students to visit the department. Occasionally, an interested student who plans to apply may wish to arrange a short, informal visit when they will be in the Pittsburgh area.
Group Visits for Admitted Graduate Students
The department offers two group visit dates for admitted students each year (usually in February and March). The groups are typically small enough that most visitors can meet with faculty 1-1 to discuss opportunities in their groups.
Each visit typically includes:
- Day 1: Afternoon arrival in time for a short driving tour of Pittsburgh and dinner with a few faculty and students in a local restaurant.
- Day 2: Meet with 3-5 faculty members in your area(s) of interest and talk with students during lunch and tours of the department and campus.
We provide more information with the admissions offer letter.
Informal Prospective Graduate Student Visits
For those who will be in the Pittsburgh area and would like to set up a short, informal visit with 1-2 faculty of interest before applying to the Ph.D. program, please contact Lorna Williams at chemgradoffice@andrew.cmu.edu at least two weeks in advance to discuss the possibility of a visit on your preferred dates given the availability of your faculty of interest. Some lodging options for these types of visits are offered below. The department cannot reimburse for these informal visits.
