Spring 2024-2025 Professional Development Series

Getting Started - An Overview of the Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure Process, presented by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty 

  • DATE: Tuesday, January 28th, 10:00 - 11:30am ET
  • LOCATION: Danforth Conference Room - Cohon University Center (CUC)
  • DESCRIPTION: Getting started with the Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) process can be daunting and at times overwhelming. In this interactive session, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty will review university expectations and policies around RPT. We will have a panel of Associate Deans from across our schools and colleges to answer specific questions. Faculty will leave the session with guidance and actionable steps to get started on RPT. 

Designing Inclusive and Effective Undergraduate Research* Experiences, presented by the Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation

  • DATE: Monday, February 24th, 11:00 - 12:30pm ET
  • LOCATION: McKenna/Peter - Cohon University Center (CUC)
  • DESCRIPTION: This session will give a broad overview of how to intentionally design and implement an inclusive undergraduate research experience* for mentors in any discipline. Topics include situating mentoring within teaching, scoping a project, promoting skill development, and addressing common mentoring challenges. Participants will have time to discuss evidence-based mentoring practices with colleagues and consider specific strategies for their own mentoring contexts. *Note: "Undergraduate research" includes anything that helps give undergraduates deliberate practice at developing essential skills for research or creative inquiry within or across disciplines. All disciplines are welcome!

Funding Your Research and Scholarship: Life Cycle of a Research Award and Competing for (Federal) Funding, presented by the Office of the Vice President for Research 

  • DATE: Tuesday, March 25th, 12:00-1:30pm ET

  • DESCRIPTION: How do you get started funding your research and/or scholarship? It can be daunting with a myriad of agencies, funding types, and sponsors, as well as navigating 一本道无码's research infrastructure. This workshop will provide an overview of the life cycle of a typical research award, discussing the key differences between sponsor classes including federal agencies, industry, mission-driven agencies, and early career awards. We will take a deeper dive into how to compete for federal funding, the most common type of funding sought by faculty. Lunch will be provided. 

End of Year Celebration & Networking Session, presented by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty

  • DATE: Wednesday, April 9th, final time to be confirmed
  • LOCATION: Final location to be confirmed
  • DESCRIPTION: Join us to celebrate our final session of the year! Faculty will take time to reflect on the academic year, including accomplishments, challenges, and next steps for future semesters. We will also review tips and strategies for building your own mentoring network, followed by a networking event to give you a chance to put the strategies into action and connect with fellow faculty and 一本道无码 administrators and leaders. Light refreshments will be served.

Supporting Student Well-Being: Recognizing and Assisting Students in Distress, presented by Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS)

Belonging in the Classroom: How Implicit Bias Shapes Outcomes & Experiences, Presented by The Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion & Chief Diversity Officer
