Conservation in Tanzania

Gabriela Petit (MCS, '25), studying Neurobiology, spent a semester studying abroad in Tanzania through SIT’s Conservation and Political Ecology Program. Gabriela says:

I have absolutely loved my experience so far and have gotten to do so much throughout Tanzania. We have spent a total of four weeks on safaris and exploring different regions of the country. I've gotten to see all kinds of animals, from cheetahs, lions and leopards to elephants, rhinos and giraffes.

I've gotten to meet different tribes native to East Africa and have gotten to learn about their culture; I even had the opportunity to stay with a family in Arusha for a month. I've met so many people and learned so much about Tanzania and conservation, which has been a really life changing experience. I've even gotten the chance to learn Swahili!

The staff members are incredible and this experience wouldn't be the same without them, they really care about you and the work you're doing. They are honestly the kindest and funniest people! If you are interested in wildlife conservation, or just want to explore Tanzania, this is the program for you. I think it could be a program for anyone, as long as you're open to learning.
