Our programs and educators offer invaluable experience that allows students to explore, engage and connect with the richly diverse cultures of the world.
Students not pursuing a major or minor in our department may earn a Language and Culture Certificate in the aforementioned languages.
LCAL students will achieve the following goals:
Build competence in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in the target language by linking language learning with literary and cultural studies
Enhance knowledge and appreciation of the values, traditions and cultural history of the peoples who speak the target language studied
Develop independent learning skills and enthusiasm for the field through research, study and internships abroad
Gain and promote intercultural understanding in an increasingly interdependent world
Develop research, problem-solving and critical thinking skills through cross-linguistic, cross-cultural and comparative historical analysis
