CONTAINMENT, CARE + COMMUNITY Exhibition

Containment, Care + Community showcases work from earlier and more recent periods of pandemic life exploring social and spatial prospects for preventing contagion, providing care, and building community.

September 5-10, 2023
MM 123 & 125
Open house on Tuesday Sept 5, 12:30 to 2pm -- Refreshments provided!

The artists, designers, and scholars represented in this exhibition examine the intersections of disease and space as historically-situated, unevenly experienced, and productive of different possibilities. Against the discourse of a “post-pandemic” normality, they underscore the urgency of radical care and health justice given the ongoing social, health, and economic impacts of the pandemic. Rather than seeing containment, care, and community as ontologically distinct concepts, the exhibition invites viewers to consider how methods of infectious disease containment may open avenues not for isolation and personal responsibility, but for relationality and collective action.
