(Our) Life on Mars?

Dava J. Newman
MIT Professor and former Deputy Director of NASA

October 4, 6:00-8:00pm

Giant Eagle Auditorium, Baker Hall A51

Professor Dava J. Newman describes Gen Z as the "Mars generation," predicting that we'll be sending teams of Earthlings to Mars in the 2030s. In this talk Newman will answer questions about the fact and fiction underlying The Martian, Ridley Scott's 2015 film starring Matt Damon. Newman's own research includes the 3D Knit BioSuit (TM) and numerous biofeedback experiments towards the goal of human exploration of outer space. Newman's lecture is the introductory event for Planetary Hospitality, an initiative of the Center for the Arts in Society, which explores the rhetorical, artistic and media representations that help us to imagine which planets, including planet Earth, are truly hospitable for human life.
